Enchanting dust is a magical material capable of charming an individual to carry out the creator's desires. Originally created by the wizards of the School of Dominion, the dust will potentially charm any individual that inhales it. When the dust is created, it must be set to cause the victim to carry out a general task. Sample tasks include:

  • Defend the creator from enemies
  • Act as the creator's servant
  • Forget the last thing that the victim saw
  • Peacefully leave the location where the dust was found

The librarians of the Library of Yemuria used this dust to protect their tomes and halls from would-be thieves and trespassers. As the number of librarians dwindled to only a few, the librarians began to use the dust to charm the unwitting to become their servants or to simply leave the Library all together.

When a character disturbs a space with the dust in it, the very light material becomes airborne in that space. Any character in that space or entering it for the next 1d4 rounds must make a Will save DC 15.

Dread Docent breath of forgetfulness

I had the idea that the Dread Docent would have the ability to make interlopers forget what they've seen - in case they escape, they won't be able to lead other people back to the Library. Maybe the Dread Docents can breathe clouds of dust?
