This entry is based on the templates of the factions in the Pathfinder Chronicles Faction Guide from Paizo.

The Red Currant Syndicate is an organization of allied wizards and sorcerers who seek to awaken magical ability within themselves through self-sacrifice and pain. They came into existence shortly after the Collapse after a discovery by Willem Analore reached the ears of his closest friends and allies. They are sometimes just called the Currants or the Syndicate, and the blossoms of the red currant bush are used to mark the identities and locations of their members to those who know what to look for.

Goal: Magical Awakening

The Currants study magic and testing new means of suffering in an effort to find new ways to empower magical ability.

Alignment: NG

They seek this path rather than more malevolent paths because they believe such things to be undesirable and will simply lead to further oppression of beastfolk and other terrible things that happened prior to the Collapse.

Leader

The leader of the Currants is a former member of the School of Omniscience in Sascria by the name of Willem Analore (NG male human wizard 5, rogue 4, Red Currant Seeker 3). He knows a great deal about many things, and he has traveled far and wide in an attempt to better understand the Collapse and to overcome its challenges. You can find out more regarding Willem Analore on his page.

Headquarters

The Red Currant Syndicate is based in a small, well-hidden keep in the mountains of Free Tesaya. It was originally the home of Orlan the Recluse (CG male human wizard 9) who had sequestered himself away from human society fearing that its dependence on magic had become too great. When the Collapse came, Willem sought him out and worked with him to construct defenses that not only protected but also hid the fortress from unwanted guests.

Joining

The Red Currant Syndicate is willing to give probationary membership to any spell-caster that has managed to overcome the limitations of the Collapse in order to utilize their magic. Those without spell-casting ability are occasionally welcomed when they bring an interesting magical item to the attention of the Syndicate to demonstrate a desire to help further the goal of the organization.

Gaining Prestige

Members of the Red Currant Syndicate can advance themselves within the organization by discovering locations where magic has survived. They are also able to improve their standing by rescuing those who would become sacrifices to those with less altruistic approaches to powering their magic.

I dunno - I'm not sold on the name. Where does Currant come in? My only association with currants is that I like the jelly...

I was looking for something blood related to go with the blood magic concepts, and red currant berries looked like something that would work. I'm open to other ideas as well.

Currants

I like the currants because they are different. I have seen gemstones used often.
