If you are unfamiliar with Pathfinder as a system, please leave a comment here with what you know of D&D 3.0 or 3.5. That will help me figure out what we need to cover.

Our timing is also good in our development of the Dark Golden Age because Paizo recently released the Advanced Player's Guide which includes new base classes. Instead of adding these classes onto an existing setting, we can add these as inherently part of the setting or as a focus within a given society

  • Alchemist - They get spell-like powers that are not actually magical but instead alchemical.
  • Cavalier - These are mounted melee fighters (I've got some griffon-riding versions in mind) with group combat tricks. They also have a code of conduct.
  • Inquisitor - These characters are divine based, and they seek out enemies and traitors within their religion. While divine magic is new to the setting after the Collapse, there could be a new purpose for this group here.
  • Oracle - This is another divine caster that works more like a sorcerer than a cleric. They are also looser in how they worship the gods and could be more numerous than clerics since they have a more nascent religion feel to them.
  • Summoner - These characters summon a creature called an eidolon from the planes that is an ally. They are also able to cast some arcane spells. Some things that robosnake and I have been talking about regarding the planes could work well here.
  • Witch - If you don't have religion, you would be more likely to have witchcraft. Witches are arcane casters who are a mix of sorcerer and wizard with some additional abilities.

The d20pfsrd.com site will be adding many of these details, but you should definitely check out their site if you are interested in getting more familiar with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Also be sure to leave a comment in the Active Games thread so I can potentially introduce you to the system.

And then there was Paizo

Man, just back from Gencon and I had a number of good things happen to me. Fist I met Mike B. and learned of this work he was so very excited about. That made me excited and when you get excited you do exciting things. Some acquaintances tried to pour cold water on me and discourage the excitement, but I am a bit of a fan of humanity so I tend to believe in the fact that a man can make a difference ... and do great things.

I digressed again, didn't I?

Another great thing happened and that was that my wife and I tried the pathfinder games out and she really likes them! We are back into REAL gaming again after a 4 year break. Back from playing on a computer. Back to writing and forming stories. Back to creating mysterious adventures filled with intrigue and danger. Yeah, I had a great time at Gencon this year, but thanks to Paizo and Mike B. The fun is not coming to a close.

All of the things I needed to happen in order for my wife and the old A D & D team to get back together... happened. We needed a core rule system that was logical, that all of the people that played in the crew could understand and not feel like they were being left behind.

We needed a system that we could store all of the characters in and that we could use to create new ones and track the successes of those characters.

Enter Hero Labs for Pathfinder

We needed a means to allow some of the crew located all over the planet to be able to link up with us and play our chosen system as if they were right there with us.

Enter D20Pro from MindGene

Lastly I needed to be able to finish the cities and the dungeons for the maps that I had created in Profantasy's Campaign Cartographer 3. So I bought the rest of the tools that I needed from Ralf and the guys there at the Profantasy booth.

Now with all of that energy and all of those tools all queued up I look forward to the coming of this new world to delve and develop. Indeed we are fortunate to be here together at this time to chart a course across this new adventuring world. To those antagonists and doubters which might suggest that there is no new world on far distant shore I say this, "Remain here upon the beach, where it is safe. I will send you a bowl of ambrosia and a glass of nectar in that day."

My experience has been mostly with old school D&D. I am looking into getting what I need to come up to speed on the Pathfinder systems. Suggestions for must have items are welcome.
